Providing a semantic description for an interoperability framework using ontologies

چکیده
Nowadays enterprises require the development of new solutions that could enhance the interoperability among the partners of a supply chain; a key point in this scenario is represented by data integration mechanisms between such enterprises. In this context semantic descriptions of data and information is emerging as a critical component in a really interoperable framework upon which to implement this integration.. Starting from these considerations, the authors propose in this paper an approach to support a document-based framework for a standardisation initiative (based upon the ebXML meta-model and the ISO 11179 compliant vocabulary) introducing ontology–based descriptions in order to exploit semantic information to improve the data integration between enterprises. The use context of this work is the Textile/Clothing sector, where the composition of heterogeneous information systems is really critical.

Ontologies are set to play a key role in the “Semantic Web”, extending syntactic interoperability to semantic interoperability by providing a source of shared, precisely defined terms. DAML+OIL is an ontology language specifically designed for use on the Web; it exploits existing Web standards (XML and RDF), adding the familiar ontological primitives of object oriented and frame based systems, ...
متن کاملKOSIMap: Use of Description Logic Reasoning to Align Heterogeneous Ontologies
Semantic interoperability is essential on the Semantic Web to enable different information systems to exchange data. Such interoperability can be achieved by identifying similar information in heterogeneous ontologies. In this paper, we describe the Knowledge Organisation System Implicit Mapping (KOSIMap) framework, which differs from existing ontology mapping approaches by using description lo...

Learning objects repositories have grown and matured in the last years, being currently a cornerstone for open education. Several current systems are offering metadata openly through mainstream harvesting protocols or providing standardized query interfaces. Also, the use of standardized vocabularies or ontologies is becoming more common to provide a degree of semantic interoperability. However...
متن کاملThe Syntactic and the Semantic Web
This chapter gives an overview of the evolution of the Web. Initially, Web pages were intended only for human consumption and were usually displayed on a Web browser. New Internet business models, such as B2B and B2C, required organizations to search for solutions to enable a deep interoperability and integration between their systems and applications. One emergent solution was to define the in...
